April

In April the students will be learning some new low organized games once they get back from Spring Break.  Grumpys Island and Four Corner Tag are a couple of the new games that will be introduced.  Also in April the students will be learning the skills of badminton.  The younger grades will get an introduction to the sport by learning what the equipment is called and will have some time hitting the birdies around individually.  The older students will be learning the skills of the sport, serving, clearing, smashing, and drop shots.  The students will take the skills they have obtained and apply them to game situations in singles and doubles.

Running club will resume in May.  Tuesday and Thursdays at 12:20 is the times and the students will be running around the school grounds.

January

Welcome back everyone, I hope everyone enjoyed their winter break.  This month the students will begin the unit of basketball.  The students will be learning how to dribble the ball using their left hand and right hand.  The students will be dribbling the ball moving forward and backwards.  The students will also be learning the different shots used for offence.  The students will passing to stationary and moving targets in an offensive and defensive state.

Intramurals will be starting for all grades and times will be posted in their classroom and on the intramural page.

Basketball permission forms will be handed out to the grade 5-8 students.

November

With this beautiful weather continuing running club will still be taking place Tuesday and Thursdays until further notice.

The grade 6-8 volleyball team travelled to St. John Brebeuf School and had a fun and competitive three sets.  Photos are on the volleyball page.

The grade 6-8 volleyball team is travelling to Our Lady of Victory once in November and once in December for a game.

In the gym this month the students will be playing bowling, ringette / floor hockey, and other low organized games.  In bowling the students will be practicing there hand eye coordination when rolling the ball at targets.  In ringette and floor hockey the students will be learning the skills required for the two sports.

November 22 is an exciting day for the students in physical education.  Curling Manitoba is going to be teaching each class Rocks and Rings with a 30 minute hands on presentation.

October 2016

In October the students are going to try and use the warm weather as much as possible.

In the Kindergarten, grade 1, and grade 2/3 class the students will be participating in a number of throwing and catching activities.  The students will be throwing and catching with themselves, with scoops, with partners, and with balls of varying sizes.  They also will be participating in volleyball type activities that are modified to fit their skill levels.  The students are participating in fitness (cardiovascular endurance) days once a week in either low organized game activities or relay races.

The grade 4/5, 5/6, and 7/8 class will begin October by learning the skills and some rules for the sport of football.  The students will be learning how to throw and catch to stationary and moving targets.  The students will be participating in football type activities indoors and outdoors.  The second half of the month the students will begin the volleyball unit.  They will be learning how to set, forearm pass, spike, and serve a ball. The students participate in fitness days every two weeks to improve overall fitness levels.

Running club is underway and the students are getting some miles in.  Running club is on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Running club will go until the last Thursday in October.

September 2016

Welcome back everybody!!! I hope everyone enjoyed their summer vacation.

The first two weeks of school the students will be participating in a number of low organized games.  The kindergarten, grade 1, grade 2/3 classes will be playing a variety of tag games such as Banana Tag, Shark Tag, Turtle Tag and many others.  After that the students will be learning how the skills involved in soccer.  The students will be learning how to dribble a ball, pass, and shoot.  Thursdays will be fitness days where the students will be improving their cardiovascular endurance by participating in team and individual relays.  Fridays will be jungle gym days where the students can use their body, climb across, on, up, and under using their muscular strength.

For the first part of September the grade 4/5, 5/6, and 7/8 classes will be participating in a variety of low organized games ranging from tag to bench ball.  In he second part of of the month the students will be focusing on soccer.  The students will be learning how to dribble and pass with both feet, shoot, throw the ball in, and work as a team.  The students will have fitness class on Fridays and every other Friday will be students choice days, this is when they can pick which game the students will be playing.

Running Club will start in September.  The dates are still to be announced.  The students will be running during lunch hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:20-12:50 around the school.  Running club will end October 27th.

January

In January the students will be learning the skills involved in the sport of basketball.  The K-3 students will be dribbling the basketball in a stationary position and also travelling.  The students will use left hand, right hand, also alternating hands moving both forward and backward.  The students will be shooting into nets that have been modified (changed heights).  After that unit the students will participate in various tag and low organized games.

The Gr. 4-8 students will also be dribbling the basketball in a stationary position and travelling.  The students will also learn bounce and chest pass to stationary and moving targets.  The students will be shooting in modified and regular nets to gain confidence in accuracy and technique.  After the basketball unit the students will learn the skills of floor hockey that include: passing, handling, shooting, and teamwork.

All grades participate in fitness classes with modifications.  Kindergarten, Gr.1/2, and Gr. 2/3 students participate in relay and cardiovascular endurance races while the Gr. 4/5, 5/6, and 7/8 engage in muscular strength and muscular endurance exercises.

October

Running Club is well underway now.  The students are running around the school property, Tuesday and Thursdays during the lunch recess.  There has been a large number of participants which is exciting to see.

Friday October 9th, the students will be participating in the annual Terry Fox Walk/Run.  The students will be leaving the school after the last recess and will be going for a walk along the trail.  Parents are more than welcome to attend this event.

September

WELCOME BACK!!!! I hope everybody enjoyed their summer and is excited to be back to school.

This month all of the grades will be participating in a variety of low organized activities.  These consist mainly of tag games and variations of tag games.  The later half of the month the students will begin with learning the skills associated with soccer.  The younger students will be focused more on the basics of the sport and the older students will be applying the skills in game situations.

All students will be participating in fitness based activities twice a month.  The younger students will be engaged in more of a cardiovascular endurance workout.  This year the older grades will be doing full body bodyweight workouts ranging from 8-15 minutes in duration.

Throughout the month Mr.Wozney will be recreating the book "My Gym Teacher is from the Black Lagoon" to show the students.


May

Running Club calendars have been handed out to the students who participated in the extra curricular runs in the fall.  If your child would like to join it is for grades 3-8 and will be happening Tuesdays and Thursdays (refer to the Running Club page for further details).

The students will be participating in a number of outdoor activities which emphasis working as a team, throwing, catching, kicking, cardiovascular endurance.  Some of these activities include soccer, football, Frisbee, baseball, kickball, and track/field activities.

Important notice for parents ordering bicycle helmets *DUE TO OVERSEAS SHIPPING DELAYS HELMETS WILL ARRIVE MID MAY*

Jump Rope for Heart pledge forms will be sent out mid April and will be due back to the school around April 30th. 

A Jump Rope Club will be held for students to practice and eventually showcase their routine to the school. 

A schedule for Running Club will be sent out to all students participating for the upcoming season.
